HUMAN TRAGEDY: Suicide for cause of Telangana – self immolation but not suicide bombing or the killing of innocents ?!!
From The Hindu
HYDERABAD, July 31, 2010: It was not a normal morning for P. Indrasena Reddy and Sarojanamma of Basantapoor. For that matter for the people of the entire village located in Nyalakal mandal of Medak district, some 30 km from Zaheerabad, the constituency being represented by Andhra Pradesh Information Minister J. Geeta Reddy.
In the early hours of Saturday, the villagers woke to the tragic news that Eshan Reddy, son of Mr. Indrasena Reddy, committed suicide for the cause of Telangana. They were unable to digest what they heard. “Is it a fact?” was the question they asked each other.
But, with the news appearing on different TV channels, they were forced to accept the grim reality. Hearing the news, Mr. Indrasena Reddy rushed to Hyderabad with a heavy heart. The bereaved couple’s second son, Sravankumar Reddy, was also studying at Hyderabad.
Both Sravankumar and Eshan were staying at Ibrahimpatnam renting a room. Sravankumar has been pursuing his engineering graduation. Sources claimed that Eshan said he would commit suicide if Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas was defeated in the byelections. As Mr. Srinivas lost, Eshan resorted to the extreme step.
Telangana suicide – justice delayed is justice denied ?!!
FROM THE TELEGRAPH SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
Hyderabad, July 31: A student of Osmania University, the nerve centre of the Telangana agitation, committed suicide last night, apparently to fulfil a “vow” that he would “sacrifice” his life if all TRS legislators who had resigned won in the recent bypolls.
T. Ishan Reddy, who was doing his master’s in computer applications, set himself on fire on the campus. Police found his charred body and half-burnt sandals in bushes near the library early today. The autopsy was conducted at the spot itself after agitating students refused to let police take the 23-year-old’s body away.
Reddy killed himself less than 24 hours after all 11 TRS legislators and a BJP MLA, who had resigned to press statehood, won the bypolls.
A suicide note, found near the body and purportedly written by Reddy, said: “I took a vow at the temple of Maisamma (deity) that I will sacrifice my life if D. Srinivas and other Congress candidates are defeated in the elections and all other TRS candidates are elected. Now that they are all elected, I am fulfilling my wish.”
Reddy’s suicide was the fourth this year by a student of the university as the campaign for a Telangana state spilled onto the streets of Hyderabad again. Students and TRS and BJP leaders took out a procession with the body.

Hyderabad, August 01, 2010, 01:27 IST: Hours after the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) swept the assembly by-polls and promised to intensify the agitation for a separate state on Friday, a student’s charred body was found inside the Osmania University campus.
Suspected to have immolated himself, T Eshan Reddy (22) left a suicide note saying he was fulfilling his “wish” to give up his life after the Congress was defeated in the polls. He congratulated TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and urged him to continue the agitation.
“It looks like self-immolation. Cause of death will be known after autopsy,” said M C Ladda, deputy commissioner of police.
Reddy is the fourth Osmania student to commit suicide over the statehood issue this year.
Police allowed hundreds of Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) activists to take out a procession carrying the body. Rao, Maoist sympathiser Gaddar and JAC chairman Kodandaram joined in.
The JAC said more than 300 youth had committed suicide in Telangana since the protests began in November last year.
TRS wins 11 out of 12 seats in by-elections – majority consensus still to be heard ?!!
From The Hindu
Hyderabad, July 31, 2010: TRS candidates emerged victorious in eleven of the twelve assembly constituencies in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh where the by-elections were held recently and the BJP retained the lone seat held by it.
The TRS nominees won from the five assembly constituencies whose results were announced in the early hours on Saturday.
In Huzurabad, TRS candidate E Rajendra defeated his nearest TDP rival by a margin of 55,360 votes. In Koreatla, TRS candidate K Vidyasagar Rao won by a margin of 45,895 votes against his Congress rival J Ratnakar Rao.
In Sircilla, TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao’s son K T Rama Rao won by a majority of 44,642 votes over his Congress rival K K Mahinder Reddy. In Yellareddy, TRS candidate E Ravinder Reddy defeated his Congress rival Mohammad Ali Sabire.
In Warrangal West constituency, TRS nominee D Vinay Bhaskare trounced his Congress rival by a margin of 67,524 votes. The results of the five constituencies came late, as ballot papers were used for polling as a number of candidates exceeded the maximum limit of 64 for an EVM. TRS has bagged six constituencies whose results were announced yesterday.
The BJP retained the lone seat of Nizamabad it contested.
The by-elections were necessitated as the sitting MLAs —10 from TRS and one each from TDP and BJP— had quit their post in support of separate Telangana demand.
The TDP MLA has subsequently joined TRS and won from Vemulawada in the current elections.
