Congress member killed

Malda, Oct. 10: A 35-year-old Congress supporter was killed by criminals who had barged into his house in Sujapur last night.

Sujapur MLA Abu Naser Khan Chowdhury alleged that criminals backed by the CPM had shot Nitu Sheikh and hacked him to death. He said the CPM has embarked on the politics of murder in his constituency to make inroads into an area where it had no existence. The CPM district secretary, Jiban Moitra, said the murder was the result of a turf war between two groups of “anti-socials”. The police said Sheikh was involved in the murder of one Ghuran Sheikh several years back and had spent time in jail. The law enforcers suspect that a rival gang was behind Sheikh’s murder.
